WAFOOD Brief 3 – Economic Security and Food Access During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Pierce County
Published October 30, 2020, this brief report assesses income/food assistance, food security, and food access before and since the COVID-19 pandemic from June to July 2020 among Pierce County residents.
Initial Findings
A total of 431 Pierce County residents responded to the WAFOOD survey comprising 16% of the 2,621 statewide respondents. This brief provides a snapshot of Pierce County participant responses, including alarmingly high rates of food insecurity (65-68%) in lower income Pierce County households and in Pierce County households with children. Stimulus checks were received by 83% of Pierce County households and unemployment benefits were sought by 31% of Pierce County households in our sample.
