WAFOOD Brief 2 – Economic Security and Food Access During the COVID-19 Pandemic: King County

Published October 30, 2020, this brief report assesses income/food assistance, food security, and food access before and since the COVID-19 pandemic from June to July 2020 among King County residents.

Initial Findings

A total of 861 King County residents responded to the WAFOOD survey comprising 33% of the 2,621 statewide respondents. This brief provides a snapshot of survey King County participant responses, including alarmingly high rates of food insecurity (45-59%) in lower income King County households and in King County households with children. Stimulus checks were received by 78% of King County households and unemployment benefits were sought by 31% of King County households in our sample.
