Dr. Mario Kratz’s research focuses on the relationship between diet, obesity, and chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancers associated with obesity. Current projects include controlled dietary intervention studies in humans to better understand how diet composition affects energy and glucose homeostasis, or major determinants of glucose homeostasis including insulin sensitivity, pancreatic beta-cell function, liver fat content, and low-grade chronic inflammation. His research group is also conducting translational studies to improve our understanding of the etiology of low-grade chronic adipose tissue inflammation and its relationship to adiposity and insulin resistance.
