Anne Lund, MPH, RD, receives 2017 Washington State Outstanding Dietitian of the Year Award

At their annual conference, the Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (WSAND) honored Anne Lund, MPH, RD, with the Outstanding Dietitian of the Year Award for 2017. This award is the most prestigious recognition given by WSAND and highlights notable leadership, ability, and service.

Anne is the Director of our Graduate Coordinated Program in Dietetics and has served as a mentor or thesis committee member for more than 100 dietetics students. She has been at the UW since 2003 and with the Graduate Coordinated Program in Dietetics since 2009. In 2015, Anne was one of seven recipients of the Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award, which is given out by the Nutrition and Dietetic Educators & Preceptors group within the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

In addition to Anne, three other individuals affiliated with the Nutritional Sciences Program received awards.

Ben Atkinson, MS, RDN, CD – Emerging Dietetic Leader Award
The Emerging Dietetic Leader Award recognizes the competence and activities of members, regardless of their age, who are at the beginning of their dietetic careers. Members receiving this honor have supported the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the public through demonstrating leadership in legislation, research, education, management, and other areas related to the profession.

Ben is a graduate of our program and is the Manager of Outpatient Nutrition, Informatics & Wellness at Harborview. He serves as a preceptor for our nutrition interns and is a clinical faculty member.

Katie Farver, RDN, CD – Management Award for Excellence
The Management Practice Award for Excellence was established in 2011 to promote members worth and to acknowledge the professional contributions of management and consultant practitioners in Washington State.

Katie recently retired from Harborview Medical Center, where she worked as the Director of Nutrition and Foodservices. She was also an NSP clinical faculty member and a preceptor for students in our dietetics training program for many years.

Judy Simon, MS, RDN, CD, CHES – Community Practice Award for Excellence
The Community Practice Award for Excellence was established in 1990 to promote member worth and to acknowledge the professional contributions of community practitioners in Washington State.

In addition to having her own private practice and working as a dietitian at UWMC–Roosevelt, Judy is a preceptor for our interns and a clinical faculty member who’s been the instructor for NUTR 560 Nutrition Counseling for Chronic Disease since 2011.
